Misc Note : This disc contains both DDD and ADD recordings. Science has virtually confirmed what classical music lovers have intuitively known through the ages: what proves to be profound, deep and enriching is also, simply, good for us. This comes as no surprise because the intricacies of classical music are not only aesthetically pleasing but they also help to develop our mental muscles as well. And what could be more challenging for the brain than Beethoven? Although Beethoven is known for storming the musical heavens with his passionate musicality, he also revealed a seductive and soft-spoken melodic gift. Opening this CD is a delightful set of variations on Scottish, Irish and Welsh tunes. Written for piano and flute, the gentleness of these tunes will stimulate the growing minds of the youngest of music lovers among us. The rest of the CD is devoted to excerpts from some of Beethoven's more familiar works, including the gorgeous 'Adagio cantabile' from the "Pathetique" sonata and the "Ode to Joy from the Ninth Symphony. Of course, no Beethoven CD for babies could be complete without Beethoven's most well-known piece, "Fr Elise." Clearly, this is an essential CD for all toddlers - and a good listen for the rest of us as well.
